About this test

Utilized for detecting bacterial and fungal DNA in blood samples, crucial for diagnosing sepsis and bloodstream infections.

    Bacteremia, Sepsis

The BloodKEY test provides diagnostic insights for bloodstream infections detecting bacterial and fungal pathogens associated with bacteremia, sepsis, and other systemic infections. It identifies both common and rare bacterial species, including those linked to endocarditis, and detects multiple pathogens in polymicrobial infections. Designed to detect low bacterial loads, it is particularly valuable in subacute infections and cases where traditional cultures may fail, including culture-negative results due to prior antibiotic use, slow-growing or fastidious organisms, or low-level bacteremia.

Rapid sequencing using NGS technology powered by advanced bioinformatics enables the identification of bacterial and fungal organisms, analyzing over 50,000 microbial targets in a single sample. qPCR provides rapid detection of bacterial load and targeted pathogen identification. The test also screens for 17 antibiotic resistance genes, assisting in antimicrobial therapy selection.

Validated for whole blood specimens, the test includes a sample collection kit and reports results within 3–5 days.

Interpreting our lab report

Each test includes a detailed laboratory report, providing clinicians with clear, structured data for fast decision-making. These reports include:

  • • List of bacteria and fungi detected in the sample(s)

  • • Identified antibiotic resistance genes

  • • Antimicrobials to consideration for treatment
