About this test

Specialized in detecting joint infections, periprosthetic infections, and osteomyelitis, providing detailed microbial analysis.

Main Infections Detected:

  • description-item-image

Prosthetic Joint Infections (PJI), Joint Infections, including Septic Arthritis, Osteomyelitis, Spine infections

The OrthoKEY Surgery test provides essential diagnostic insights for infections of the joints, including periprosthetic joint infections (PJI), osteomyelitis, spine infections, deep surgical site infections, and post-operative orthopedic infections. It is specifically designed for intraoperative sample collection, enabling direct pathogen detection during surgery for improved infection management. The test is particularly beneficial in cases of chronic, recurrent, and culture-negative infections, as well as for patients who have received prior antibiotic therapy, which can reduce culture sensitivity.

Rapid sequencing using NGS technology powered by advanced bioinformatics, enables broad microbial identification, detecting over 50,000 bacterial and fungal targets in a single sample. qPCR enables rapid detection of bacterial load and targeted pathogen identification, improving diagnostic sensitivity. The test also screens for 17 antibiotic resistance genes, supporting optimized antimicrobial therapy selection.

Validated for intraoperative synovial fluid, swab, tissue, and gauze samples, the test includes a sample collection kit and allows for the collection of up to six samples per test, ensuring comprehensive pathogen detection. Results are reported within 3–5 days, providing timely and precise infection diagnosis in surgical settings.

Interpreting our lab report

Each test includes a detailed laboratory report, providing clinicians with clear, structured data for fast decision-making. These reports include:

  • • List of bacteria and fungi detected in the sample(s)

  • • Identified antibiotic resistance genes

  • • Antimicrobials to consideration for treatment
